There isn’t much time between us and the best holiday ever…Halloween! And when it comes to movies that actually take place on Halloween there are few that get it right.
In true spirit of the upcoming holiday, here are the top 7 movies that are guaranteed to get you into the Halloween spirit!
7. Night of the Demons (1988)
Night of the Demons follows a group of teenagers that decide to throw a Halloween party in an abandoned funeral home. Now, little did they know, they picked an evil funeral home and they are about to release a band of demons that are real party crashers. Bummer!
6. House of 1,000 Corpses (2003)
Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses is about a small group that decides to go looking for urban legends around Texas (on Halloween night no less). Always a great idea! This adventurous group finds out one of the legends is more real than they ever could have imagined! The group ends up being prisoners to a sadistic family in this strange tale of horror.
5. May (2002)
May is one of my all time favorite movies. It’s a unique tale of an odd young woman that is desperately trying to make a friend. You really get to love this character as you see her, strangely enough, develop social skills as she slips into madness. It’s not until Halloween that she gets to finally, and quite literally, make a friend.
4. Halloween (1978)
This true horror classic that shows us the beginnings of Michael Meyers is a must-see leading up to Halloween. Unlike the remake, not knowing the reason behind Michael’s madness and desire to kill his sister is what makes this movie all the more terrifying.
3. Halloween II (1981)
Halloween II picks up right where Halloween leaves off. Laurie wakes up in the hospital after a little fight with her brother, only to find out that it’s not over yet! It’s still Halloween night and, yes, he’s still after you. This underrated sequel is an entertaining and scary continuation of the original.
2. Halloween H2O (1998)
Halloween H2O picks up 20 years after the original movie with Michael once again coming after his sister…and this time her son, too. Out of all the Halloween movies out there, the Michael and Laurie story is the only true storyline in my mind. This movie brings that story line to a perfect ending. I mean, who doesn’t want to see Laurie finally fighting back and getting revenge? Side note: If you haven’t seen the Halloween movies, you can see this one directly after Halloween II. The others are not necessarily connected.
1. Trick ‘r Treat (2007)
Trick ‘r Treat is probably the perfect Halloween movie. It follows four interwoven stories that take place in the same town on Halloween night. I believe the tagline says it best: “If you don’t follow the rules tonight, you won’t live to see tomorrow.”
What movies do you watch to get into the Halloween spirit?
